Kettlebell Beach-Body Workout (Beach Optional)

by Shin Ohtake on Monday, July 13, 2009 • 23 Comments

Vacations, get-togethers, cookouts, and carting the kids around…with summer in full swing, you’re probably busier than ever. I know I am! But there’s no reason you can’t work in a quick, killer workout no matter your schedule or whereabouts. So today, I’ve gotta another no-excuses workout you can squeeze in anytime, anywhere. Plus, this one will get you out of the gym for a day so you can soak up the sun and enjoy the outdoors while getting your sweat on. All you need is one kettlebell ( a dumbbell will work just fine if you don’t have a kettlebell) to get your heart pumping with this full-body beach workout. Not to worry…the beach isn’t a requirement, but it sure is fun!  Check it out…

Did you learn any new exercises in this video? As always, I love to hear from you so please post your comments!

Here’s recap of the workout:

  • 15 Swings
  • 20 Yard Run
  • 15 Sumo Deadlift High-Pulls
  • 20 Yard Run
  • 20 Overhead Lunges
  • 15 Squat ‘n Catch
  • 20 Yard Run
  • 5 Throws (Forward OR Backward)

Repeat the entire set 3-5 rounds

P.S. There are a ton of great workouts in my Killer Kettlebells eBook (the one that comes free with the MAX Workouts deluxe or premium package). All the workouts in that book only call for ONE kettlebell, so it’s super easy and convenient to do these total body sculpting routines practically anywhere. If you have this eBook already, you can always swap out a workout here and there if you’re currently on the MAX Workouts 90 day program. And if you don’t already have this book, you can still get it free with the MAX Workouts deluxe or premium packages.

Oy! Killer workout. I completed a variation of it (running 30 yds on Grass and using weighted 15 lb medicine ball).I just turned 67, Shin, and that with a knee replacement in 2004 and as a recovering CABG (bypass) patient presents a few challenges. But this is doable workout. I tried it and am still alive. What weight K’Ball do you advise. I’m 5’10” and weigh 204 lbs. Thanks! Barry—-Marin County.

Shin,

Great down and dirty routine!  How heavy is that kettle bell your wife is using?

Thanks,

JH

Shin - I think you owe your wife big time for this one. The problem I see with the kettlebells is that they are really expensive and as you add strength, logically you need to keep buying heavier weights. Looks like a good workout I can try with dumbbells though.

Shin - Nice workout!

I think you owe your wife an ice cream for her gr8 demo of the exercises!

Hi Shin
Loved the beach workout. I will be taking my girls down to our beautiful Sunshine Coast beach and put them thru that workout this week. They will hate me but what a great workout - can’t wait to try.
Many thanks.

Shin,

What’s going on - recently you’ve been making your wife do all the really hard demos!  Obviously, from a male point of view it makes the videos more interesting - but aren’t you ashamed of wimping out?!

Glad you all liked the workout!

For those of you having trouble viewing the video:  it may be that many workplaces have been known to block YouTube videos, so you may want to try from home if you haven’t already. Also, slower connections will cause the video to load slowly.

Barry,

I would start out with a 12 kg (25lb) kettlebell and work your way up to 16 kg (35 lb).

John,

My wife’s using a 12 kg (25 lb) kettlebell.

Vaseem,

Busted!  I thought I should be fair and split up the workouts… : )
I’ll get back at it… soon!

Daryl,

She can start out with a 8 - 12 lb dumbbell or kettlebell and see how she does.

this is a great workout video but when I did it I realized that you forgot to show how you throw up after the forth round and by the way when i did it I used a 30 lb dumbell and damn that thing gets slippery.

My husband and I did this workout yesterday, and we were both struggling!  What an amazing kick butt workout! I am looking forward to trying it again and getting through more rounds. Thanks for the great videos!

Posted by dorreenabad  on  07/28  at  12:37 PM

Hi Shin,  I did this kick as workout at home and used the tredmill and did wall ball instead of throwing the kettlebell.  2 rounds in and I was tapped.  I loved it so much I am thinking about heading down to the beach to give it a go today.  Yikes!!!

Hi Dorreen,

I thought you might like it!  The wall ball definitely kicks it up a notch!

Thanks for the post!
